Written in 1930, the book, which Faulkner described as a “tour de force”, tracks the story of a poor Mississippi farm woman whose family’s innermost thoughts come alive in the days of her death. It unfolds in a stream of consciousness technique in a fictional rendering of Faulkner’s own hometown.
