Hulot (Mr. Hulot’s Holidays). Seagulls squawk, waves crash and swimmers cavort in endless summer days spent on the beach. Tatitude suggests that sand, water and sun are the basic elements in a happy, carefree life, and maybe even the secret to eternal youth. Directed by Vivian Ostrovsky; Edit: Vivian Ostrovsky, Ruti Gadish; Sound: Vivian Ostrovsky, Ruti Gadish Vivian Ostrovsky (born on November 17th 1945 in New York, United States) is an experimental filmmaker and curator. Despite being born in New York, Ostrovsky spent most of her childhood in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and did her secondary studies there. She then pursued her studies in psychology and film at the Sorbonne University in Paris. She began working for Ciné-Femmes, a group which fought for feminism and its recognition. In 1980, she became a filmmaker and abandoned her career as an activist. She organized a number of festivals, one of them being Jerusalem. Ostrovsky’s films explore the theme of transit and she situates herself after French filmmaker and critic, Yann Beauvais between the “journall film” and the “collage film”. The quirky, poetic micro-events and rhythms of daily life have been central to her new take on old school experimental filmmaking. Her directorial expertise spans from uproarious and meditative fugues of footage found and shot, to longer-form inventive, often-personal documentaries and as well includes avant-garde portraits of artists and intellectuals and recently, immersive film installations. Ostrovsky’s films are trans temporal. Viewers are induced to feel these films vividly, as though they are somehow their own memories. Initially inspired by Jonas Mekas’s diary films, she cultivated an expert flaneur’s kino eye, however she moved on to develop this skill into a signature approach driven by editing. This shift was not made in order to emphasize chronology, content or structure so much as to‘sculpt’ visual logic, which she amplifies with surprising sound effects, bits of vintage music and sometimes her own, soothing, confessional narration. Appropriations of and references to cinema history often imbue her projects with a unique dreamy playfulness and wistful nostalgia. Throughout her diverse portfolio Ostrovsky’s work is especially notable for its distinctive intimacy. All along, she’s been a devout cinephile and, while building her own maverick body of work, she has pro-actively supported the work of others, as a film distributor, festival organizer and programmer, as a curator, collector and sponsor. A champion of Brazilian art and film, currently Ostrovsky is spearheading a restoration project to conserve and remaster art film and video created before 1980. An artist and an artist’s artist, Ostrovsky has a reverence for the oldest and newest dimensions of filmmaking. Within and beyond all that, one best not overlook her irreverent, wry sense of humor, for that infuses all of the above.
https://cf-images.eu-west-1.prod.boltdns.net/v1/static/4171818645001/05dbff84-df0c-4261-b918-8b0577964f9c/8435a15b-e16c-4827-86ec-917cd39de78b/1280x720/match/image.jpg
filmArt , Film art , avantGardeExperimentalFilm , Avant Garde/Experimental film , directingForScreen , Directing for screen , experimentalFilm , Experimental film , filmmakingAndProduction , Filmmaking and production , shortFilm , Short film , beauty , Beauty , avantGarde , Avant-Garde , experimental , Experimental , schoolsMovementsAndStyles , Schools, movements and styles , symbolism , Symbolism , age , Age , childrenAndChildhood , Children and childhood , natureAndNaturalism , Nature and naturalism , made_20002009 , 2000–2009 , origin_unitedStates , United States , video , Video , anthropology , Anthropology , origin_northAmerica , North America , digitalArt , Digital Art , filmAndCinema , Film and Cinema , scienceTechnologyAndNature , Science, technology, and nature , artsAndLiterature , Arts and literature , made_2000Present , 2000–present , identity , Identity ,
["age","anthropology","artsAndLiterature","avantGarde","avantGardeExperimentalFilm","beauty","childrenAndChildhood","digitalArt","directingForScreen","experimental","experimentalFilm","filmAndCinema","filmArt","filmmakingAndProduction","identity","made_20002009","made_2000Present","natureAndNaturalism","origin_northAmerica","origin_unitedStates","schoolsMovementsAndStyles","scienceTechnologyAndNature","shortFilm","symbolism","video
video
Vivian Ostrovsky~Ruti Gadish~Vivian Ostrovsky~Revoir Video"}
