This program is an analysis of the classic ballet "Swan Lake", in performance and commentary, by the celebrated dancers Maria Tallchief and Nicolas Magallanes. The ballet excerpts use the choreography of Marius Petipa as revised by George Balanchine. Music by Tchaikovsky.
Tallchief and Magallanes introduce the characters, and present highlights of the ballet, interspersed with explanations of how certain techniques indicate various human emotions and motivations. We see the meeting of the Swan Queen and the Prince, the pas de deux in which the Prince asks her to come to his court, the Prince bewitched by an impostor, and the final farewell between the Prince and Swan Queen.
