In a remarkable half hour, two masters of the tap dance demonstrate its development. The evolution of this dance form took place in America, but with influences from around the world -- including native African and Irish dances.

Coles and Atkins, a headlining team in the days when dance was on every vaudeville bill, show what two lives in tap dance have taught them, from "over the top" -- a dance step named for trench warfare in World War One, to "bebop"-- decades later, from "buck and wing" to "slow drag."
