1995 National Jazz Saxophone Award winner Julien Wilson has been referred to as "one of the most exciting musicians in the country" (Sydney critic John Shand) and "almost everyone's favourite side-man" (Joe Chindamo).

Julien has recorded or performed with many of Australia's leading jazz musicians and popular bands including Mike Nock, Thirsty Merc, Paul Grabowsky, Barney McAll, Scott Tinkler, Archie Roach and Ruby Hunter, Daddy Cool, Chris Tanners Virus and Augie March, as well as with international musicians such as Jim Black, Andy Milne, Bob Moses, Hugh Masekala, Palle Mikkleborg, Josh Roseman and The Artie Shaw Orchestra.

Wilson's original and thoughtful compositions are inspired and informed by his extensive studies in the U.S. with George Garzone and the legendary George Russell.

One of Australia’s leading saxophonists, Julien has made long-­‐term contributions to The Black Arm Band and The Australian Art Orchestra and is featured on award winning albums by Barney McAll, Stu Hunter, Jonathan Zwartz and Ben Salter. He hasplayed with Charlie Haden, Kurt Elling, Paul Bley, Jim Black, Hermeto Pascoal, Hugh Masekala, Mike Nock, Vince Jones, Paul Grabowsky, Thirsty Merc, Archie Roach, Paul Kelly, Bernie McGann and Allan Browne. He has released over a dozen CD’s as leader or co-­‐leader. The Julien Wilson Trio with Stephen Magnusson and Stephen Grant have been praised as one of the most original groups in Australia and have performed at numerous international jazz festivals. In 2013 Julien formed his own label, Lionsharecords. The label debut, This is Always won an unprecedented trifecta ofAustralian Jazz ‘Bell’ Awards (Best Ensemble, Best Traditional Album and Best Composition) and was the best-­‐selling Australian jazz albumat Birdland Records in 2014.Julien has been awarded the 2015 APRA Art Music Award for Excellence in Jazz, the 2008 ‘Bell’ Award for Jazz Artist of the Year, the 2006 Freedman Fellowship for Jazz and the 1994 National Jazz Award. He holds a Bachelor of Music Performance from the Victorian College of the Arts and a Graduate Degree in Jazz from The New England Conservatory in Boston and is currently a teaching associate at Melbourne and Monash Universities.
